Ban now! Mexico shouts: DF free of bullfighting

Remember the recent posts about the series of protests in Mexico City to ban bullfighting? (the image shows the last one) well, I just want to inform you that the law to ban it was frozen by the congress… this means that cannot be re-entered and they will decide when to un-froze it… we’re still waiting for the response on animal rights law as well.
An international action might be needed I’ll keep you posted. 

Recuerdan la serie de protestas para abolir las corridas de toros en la Ciudad de México? (la imagen muestra la última) bueno, solo quiero informarles que la ley para prohibirlas fue congelada por el congreso… esto significa que no puede volver a meterse y ellos decidirán cuando abordarla… de igual manera, aun esperamos la respuesta en relación con la ley sobre derechos animales.
Podría necesitarse una acción internacional, los mantendré informados

Remember the national protest in Mexico against bullfighting last sunday? Well, yesterday there was another one in Mexico City, but this time there was something different: pro-bullfighters… so, as you may expect from people who enjoy and pay for violence… there was violence… I’m posting this series of photos because the media is claiming the aggression was mutual… you see… the anti-bullfighting group stood there receiving hits, blows, scratches, insults and even urine thrown at them before even trying to defend themselves all to end this senseless practice, they also delivered 13,000 signatures, to make a total of 36,000 signatures gathered just in Mexico City to ban bullfighting… but it’s not going to be easy, even though 70% of mexicans wants them banned, there’s a lot of interests and, of curse, money involved in this… plus the senate said that is not an important issue (someone got money to say that, I’m sure)…

¿Recuerdan la protesta nacional en México para prohibir las corridas de toros? Bueno, ayer se realizó otra en la Ciudad de México, pero esta vez hubo algo diferente: gente pro corridas de toros… así que, como se puede esperar de gente que disfruta y paga por violencia… hubo violencia… estoy posteando esta serie de fotografías por que los medios de comunicación esta diciendo que las agresiones fueron mutuas… verán… el grupo en contra de las corridas de toros estuvo ahi recibiendo golpes, puñetazos, rasguños, insultos e incluso orina que les aventaron antes de siquiera intentar defenderse todo paraterminar esta práctica sin sentido, tambien entregaron 13,000 firmas, para sumar 36,000 firmas reunidas solo en la Ciudad de México para prohibir las corridas de toros… pero no será fácil, aun cuando el 70% de los mexicanos quieren que se prohiban, hay muchos intereses y, por supuesto, dinero de por medio en este asunto… además de que el senado dijo que no era un tema importante (alguien recibió dinero para decir eso, seguramente)…

27 cities in Mexico joined the protest against Bullfighting, yesterday April 22… 6,000 people gathered in Mexico City (me included) alone to pressure the authorities to finally ban this practice… we are waiting the resolution by the end of April. According to recent surveys 70% of mexicans are against bullfighting and want them banned.

27 ciudades de México se unieron a la protesta en contra de las corridas de toros, ayer 22 de Abril… Solo en la ciudad de México se reunieron 6,000 personas (incluida yo) para presionar a las autoridades de finalmente prohibir ésta páctica… esperamos la respuesta para finales de Abril. De acuerdo con encuestas recientes 70% de los mexicanos están en contra de las corridas de toros y quieren que se prohiban.

For those near Mexico City let me remind you this Sunday 22 we’ll be protesting against bullfighting at Zocalo to add pressure so this practice can be finally banned… You can also show your support at the local Zocalo in all Mexico or in front of the correspondent embassy in your country.

Alvaro Munera: An ex-bullfighter tells why he became an animal rights activist

A bull named Terciopelo [Velvet] gored the Colombian bullfighter Álvaro Múnera, aka “El Pilarico,” in 1984, confining him to a wheelchair for life. Múnera was 18 years old back then. His best friend, “El Yiyo,” was gored to death months later, and the manager of both bullfighters committed suicide three years after that.

Múnera became a hardcore animal rights defender and nothing less than the Antichrist for tauromachy [the art of bullfighting] aficionados. He currently works in the Council of the City of Medellín, using his position to defend the rights of disabled people and to promote anti-bullfighting campaigns.

13,300 toros son asesinados en corridas de toros oficiales (el equivalente a 36 toros al día). El total de asesinatos se calcula que es 3 veces mayor.
